What are facial thread veins?

Facial thread veins are tiny veins that appear most commonly on the cheeks and nose. Small thread veins are red, but larger ones look purplish. They have many names, including:

  • Spider veins
  • Broken veins (not an accurate name, because they are not actually broken)
  • Capillary veins.

Normally, the tiny veins in the skin are invisible, but in some people, they expand and show through the skin. One cause of this is too much exposure to the sun over the years. Another is pregnancy or oestrogen treatment. They may also be inherited. Thread veins can sometimes be a sign of rosacea.

Laser treatment can dramatically improve your appearance, leaving unsightly red thread veins on the face far less visible.

Our state-of-the-art Ndyag lasers eliminate only the unwanted red veins and do not affect the surrounding skin, leaving the healthy vein-free skin.

We specialise in the removal of facial red veins using the most advanced laser techniques.

Treatment Overview

What type of laser is used to treat spider veins?

The most common laser used for spider vein treatments is the NdYag Laser system. It is a handheld device and also has a cooling tip to minimize the discomfort during the therapy.

How does the laser work?

The NdYag laser pierces the skin and penetrates the superficial blood vessel. The heat generated from the laser coagulates the blood inside the vessel causing it to collapse and seal. Over the next few weeks, the vessel will disappear and all the blood will be removed by the body’s scavenging cells. Our state of the art laser treatments allow the delivery of a precise dosage of energy to each blood vessel without injuring any nearby structures.

FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

Most people need between 2-3 treatments. The doctor will detail the number of treatments in your consultation.

Will it hurt?

The treatment isn’t painful and requires no local anaesthetic. However, some patients notice a slight feeling of discomfort, which is similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting. After the treatment, you should be able to work and return to your daily routine immediately.

What results can I expect?

Facial vein removal treatment has a high success rate of over 90% and usually requires no further treatment, however every person is different and each vein is individual. In addition the success of a treatment may be linked to factors such as age, lifestyle and general health. Look after your skin and follow your aftercare instructions to minimise the production of new facial veins.

When will I see the results?

Most people will see a noticeable improvement immediately, although it could require several sessions before you see the full effect of treatment.

What happens after treatments?

Whilst most people will tolerate the treatment very well in some cases swelling, blistering, crusting, or flaking of the treated areas may occur. These should be left to heal as picking them off may cause an indentation.

Customer Testimonial

"I had quite a few nasal veins across the bottom of my nose and had 3 treatments to get rid of them. The results are amazing but the treatment did bring tears to my eyes whilst it was being done. Funny thing is you feel nothing at all straight after."
